Come Visit the Donald Danforth Plant
Science Center
The Donald Danforth Plant
Science Center is proud of our state-of-the-art
"green building" and grounds. In the past year,
the Center has been featured in several
publications for the environmentally conscious
way in which our Center was constructed and
continues to operate. We were also honored to
win the City of Creve Coeur's Beautification
contest for the landscaping and appearance of
our expanding research campus, located at the
intersection of Olive and Warson Roads in St.
Louis.
Tours for Adults
We love talking about our Center’s mission and
the difference our scientists are making in the
world. However, we are a young organization
responsible for raising much of our own funding
and we are committed to putting our resources to
work in service of that mission. To help our
scientific team remain focused on discovery, we
must allocate our staff and volunteer tour
guides carefully. With that in mind, we
regretfully must limit the number of tour slots
available and primarily accommodate adult groups
(typically 10 or more). To best serve the
schedules of our scientists we also ask that
groups plan to visit the Center on a Friday. If
you (and a group of friends or an organization)
have interest in scheduling a tour, please
contact
Sarah Hand via email or at 314-587-1072.
Youth Tours
Requests for tours from schools and
other groups involving school-age youth are also
considered (sorry; we are currently unable to
provide tours for children below the 7th-grade
level). While it is our hope that we will
eventually have the ability to accommodate all
requests, at present youth tours are offered a
limited basis through our Office of Educational
Outreach (priority is given to students in high
school or older). To inquire about scheduling a
youth tour, please submit your request
HERE
or call 314-587-1000.
Want to Help?
In order to expand the Danforth
Center's tour schedule and options, we have
recently started a Volunteer Docent Program. If
you are a "plant-minded" person interested in
learning more and communicating about the
wonders of plant science, please
email
or phone (314-587-1072) Sarah Hand. No plant
science background or previous experience is
required - just a belief that we need to
preserve the earth for future generations!
