Research Interest |
My research efforts are
focused on exploring molecular mechanisms involved in symptom
development of important crop viral disease and plant growth and
development.
Plant viral diseases cause serious economic losses in
agriculture, only second to those caused by fungal diseases.
Understanding molecular mechanisms involved in pathogenesis,
plant-virus interaction, host defense response, and symptom
development are essential in battling viral pathogen induced
plant diseases. Although viruses are relatively simple in
genetic make-up, little is known about the mechanisms that
underlie the development of disease symptoms caused by viral
pathogens. The challenge is to identify specific host factors
that contribute to plant susceptibility and disease symptoms.
Understanding the development of disease symptoms is critical
for engineering plants that can resist the biological effects of
viral pathogen infection. |
